Capillary flow of evaporating liquid solutions in open rectangular microchannels

چکیده

Capillary flow of liquids plays a key role in many applications including lab-on-a-chip devices, heat pipes and printed electronics manufacturing. Open rectangular microchannels often appear these applications, with the lack top resulting complex free-surface morphology evaporation. In this work we develop theoretical model based on lubrication theory kinetically limited evaporation to examine capillary evaporating liquid solutions open connected circular reservoirs. Capillary driven flow of polydimethylsiloxane in open rectangular microchannels.

The flow of liquid polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS, Dow Corning Sylgard 184, 10 : 1 base to cross-linker ratio) in open, rectangular silicon microchannels, with and without a coating (100 nm) of poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene (PTFE), was studied. Photolithographic patterning and etching of silicon wafers was used to create microchannels with a range of widths (∼5-50 μm) and depths (5-20 μm). Experimenta...

Gas-liquid two-phase flow patterns in rectangular polymeric microchannels: effect of surface wetting properties.

Here we map gas-liquid two-phase flow regimes observed in polymeric microchannels with different wetting properties. We utilized video and confocal microscopy to examine two-phase flow patterns produced by parallel injection of air and water through a Y-shaped junction into a rectangular microchannel made of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS). We observed seven flow regimes in microchannels with hyd...

Investigation of Liquid Flow in Microchannels

Liquid flow in microchannels is investigated both experimentally and numerically in this work. The experiments are carried out in microchannels with hydraulic diameters from 244 to 974 m at Reynolds numbers ranging from 230 to 6500. The pressure drop in these microchannels is measured in situ, and is also determined by correcting global measurements for inlet and exit losses. Onset of turbulen...
